David Addison went to his first motor race as a five-year-old and was hooked straight away! After a childhood spent watching motor racing, largely at Oulton Park, he began commentating in 1991 and has covered a wide variety of events ever since.

From Formula 1 to oval racing, television and track commentaries, awards dinners and press conferences, David has an enviable CV built up over 30 years of commentating.

Since 2013, David has led the ITV4 commentary team for the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship alongside 1992 champion Tim Harvey, as well as covering the GT World Challenge Europe, the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, British Rallycross Championship and the three key Goodwood events.

In addition, David has been part of the Eurosport team for the Le Mans 24 Hours and selected World Endurance Championship events as well as the official English voice for the Nurburgring 24 Hours.

David covers the final rounds of the MRF Challenge in India each February and has been the lead commentator for the Blancpain GT Series Asia for its first two successful seasons. Highlights of the FIA F3 European Championship were voiced by David, along with the ITV4 highlights coverage of the BRDC British F3 Championship.

In 2020, David added esports commentary to his CV, as lead commentator for the SRO esport GT Series Championship, the GT World Challenge Asia esports Championship and the FIA European Truck Racing esports Championship. For 2021, David heads the commentary team for the MSL Fast R Touring Car eSeries with Power Maxed Racing, powered by VRRC and truck racing’s ETRC Digital Racing Challenge.

David is also a podcast host, presenting the BTCC-themed Lamb & Flag powered by Cataclean, The Pit Lane, SRO’s GT racing podcast and Motorbotics, the podcast of the National Centre for Motorsport Engineering at the University of Bolton, all of which can be found on iTunes and elsewhere.

Biography continued


David began track-side commentaries in 1991 and at the end of that year he did his first television commentary, for Eurosport's live daily coverage of the RAC Rally. In 1992 worked for Screensport on selected DTM (German Touring Car Championship) rounds.

He has worked on Sky Sports's World Motorsports programme and has been part of the official English language commentary team for the DTM.

He has worked on radio, covering the Le Mans 24 Hours, and moved to television coverage of the event in 2004 as part of the official TWI English language commentary team for the world feed for the event. He has worked for Channel 4 on its Rallysprint coverage and for the BBC's Top Gear Motorsport show in the 1990s covering Rallycross.

For 2008, David covered Formula 1 live for the F1 in Cinema project.

Recent years

More recently, David has been part of the V8 Supercars Television crew covering the Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast 600 and Sydney 500 events, as well as the Bahrain round live for Channel 7. David has been the television voice of the Spa 24 Hours since 2010 and of the Blancpain Endurance Series since it began in 2011. When Motors TV launched its coverage of live racedays in 2010, David was behind the microphone, covering every race at a variety of club meetings.

In 2012, David was part of the television commentary team for the first ever motor races in Azerbaijan, for the GT City Challenge. He has now commentated at 60 different circuits across 17 different countries.

With knowledge, enthusiasm and professionalism, David can turn his throat to any category, any time, anywhere.

David lives in Cheshire with a vast collection of books and race programmes, a shrinking collection of his beloved Alfa Romeos, a burgeoning plethora of Porsches, a Boxer dog and his daughter,and a very patient and long-suffering wife.
